Its an abandoned airfield in the middle of nowhere. but getting a car in it must be really hard because the north entrance is locked, the south entrance is through a rough trail, i´ve only been able to get a quad bike in.

Is it a key lock or combination?

break the lock open or is it still patrolled?
how long has it been abandoned?

Dual key lock

I think the last time a plane flew into it was more than ten years ago.
Its not patrolled, not by a long shot! But its out in the open and sometimes fire planes and helicopters fly over it. Hopefully I can take pictures of it during this Summer’s trip

Damn.
Sometimes they are combination locks which are very easy to get past.

But I don’t understand who’s it meant to stop... The south entrance doesn’t have a lock, there’s a barn door secured with a high-tech piece of yarn. I suspect so that cattle doesn’t enter the field

Is the south entrance obvious?
They’ll just want to stop any trespassing and any damage to the runway.

Well not really, I’ve gone inside twice, once in 2015 and once in 2017; the doors were left exactly as I left them (locked, obviously.. no cows in the landing strip)

Someone owns it. What are the coordinates? Maybe you could get in without breaking the law if you contact the right people

Its probably the Xunta de Galizia or the municipality
Its the Aerodromo de Beariz, I unknow the coordinates but as soon as I get home I’ll look em up

I might of watched too much elchapo and narcos
But might that might be used for drug trafficking

My cousin lives in a remote Village in the South of Galicia... theres no such thing as an unguarded abandoned airfield here in Mexico... either the army protects it or narcos protect it. I hate to prove stereotypes a tv show like narcos show... but in this case they tend to be true...

This appears to be in NW Spain, so much less chance of that.

Yep, this is from 8/29/2013:

Even though it may be Narco’s... quad bike top speed run

I’m pretty sure the EZLN controls that. They’ve built attack helicopters from old corn cobs and sticks, powered by ethanol.
Watch your back!

This cousin of mine lives in Spain.
Topspeed of a Susuki 400? I think I got 80km/h in 5th gear.... its an old bike...

The zapatista army is kinda dead and down south... but this airfield is in Spain.
But good insight!

It’s nearly 10 year since one idiot kid and his 4 friends died when they did a high speed run with a ‘08 M5 on an airstrip in Florida. They managed to sneak in through an unlocked gate but missed the fact that the airstrip ends quite abruptly and the end of it was elevated. The accident got some media attention as John Travolta and his 707 live at the airport grounds.
It seems that you could make a really long jump at the end of this airstrip.

OK a little more research, the airstrip is a base for firefighting aircraft that opened in 2002. It is used during the spring and summer. Not sure if it is still operating. Here’s an environmental impact document that talks about it: https://www.boe.es/diario_boe/txt.php?id=BOE-A-2011-15427
The planes flown are PZL-Mielec M-18 Dromader , a cropdusting/firefighting plane from Poland.

I missed that! How about “controlled be ETA”?
I saw you talking about Galicia but I figured there was a Galicia in Mexico, too. The Spanish were about as creative as the English in their New World naming system.
“We just sailed across the ocean and we’re exhausted....how about ‘New England’?”
GENIUS!
(Insert Nuevo Leon, Salamanca, etc)

Oh lol. Thought this was still in Mexico

I cant fault you for that mistake!

The fastest that I’ve ever driven was on an airstrip on a military base in Spain and it wasn’t in a car designed for top speed, it was a ‘79 Camaro with a BBC in it. Monster car but the front end got EXTREMELY light at about 140. I ran out of balls before the car did. That airstrip was an alternate landing strip for the space shuttle so it had plenty of room.

fastest i´ve gone was 180km/h in an Spanish interstate highway.

Conversely the slowest car I ever drove was probably a SEAT 600 that we called El Coche Fantastico in honor of the Spanish language version of Knight Rider. That thing was a lot of fun but slooooooow.
